Giving Yourself the Green Light

Green, the color of harmony and growth

Green is the color of the heart chakra and represents empathy and connection to purpose. It is the color of nature which feels restful and relaxing to the nervous system. We are reassured by green. When you see a ridge of green trees in a desolate and dry landscape you know that there is water and food nearby. Light and bright greens have more yellow and signify new growth and energy whereas darker greens emit a sense of emotional security and an aura of capability and responsibility.

Like all colors, there are many shades and tones. Maybe when you think of green the first color that comes to mind is kelly green and perhaps that’s not your green, so you assume green isn’t for you. However, if you look at the colors in your wardrobe you might find olive green, khaki or jade and realize that some greens ARE for you.

Having spent 11 months living in state parks across the country, I came to realize how soothing and cleansing nature can be. I love bright green grass and towering trees. Moss has always fascinated me with its many shades of green and its velvety texture. I live in a desert environment now, but I grew up in the country. Some of my most peaceful and comforting times were spent in a treehouse or walking in a green pasture. Green is truly a grounding color, so if you want to call in the energy of green, there are a variety of greens to choose from. You could even incorporate green plants and foliage into your space.

Dressing ourselves can be a sacred ritual. Perhaps you find that some days you put in the effort and make it meaningful and other days you don’t. I am right there with you. I am here to encourage you to use that time to get intentional with what you are putting on your body (not to mention, in your body). Even if you aren’t going to see anyone, think about how you can incorporate color and energy to set your mood for the day. Most days I don’t see too many people and I don’t feel like making the effort to get gussied up to go to the grocery store at 7 in the morning. But that doesn’t mean I can’t be intentional about setting my mood. Perhaps I have lots of projects going on and I need to get grounded and stay focused. That could mean I decide to pick some accessories to wear around the house that remind me, every time I see them, to come back to that place of grounding and dig in. Does it matter that I am wearing jewelry with running shorts and a tank top? No, it doesn’t. I could also add a green plant to my dressing table or a photo of an inspirational painting or outfit on my vision board.

Green gives us strength and balance, so the next time you need to call those properties into your day, give yourself the green light to wear that colorful green scarf or that piece of jewelry you inherited from your grandma and remind yourself of the harmony and growth you want to embody. It doesn’t matter if nobody is there to see it as long as you know it’s meaning.

XO-

Mel
