Orange Color Psychology

Orange, one of the most exuberant colors around. There is nothing quite as beautiful as a bright orange sunset or the first sight of Autumn leaves. Even though comparing Summer to Fall is like comparing apples to oranges, they both have at least one thing in common, orange.

A combination of vibrant red and optimistic yellow, orange is attention seeking, but has a sunny disposition. It is warm, optimistic, enthusiastic, and courageous. There are many versions of orange, so if you aren’t drawn to bright tangerine or soft peach, you may be drawn to earthy tones like pumpkin or terracotta.

Perhaps because of its boldness, orange is a love it or leave it color. Personally, it is one of my top two favorite colors. If orange is your favorite color, it means you are tolerant and accepting of others. You are a people person, a free spirit, and an adventurer. Orange people are full of life, always on the go and love new challenges.

With all colors through the ages, we see that they always exist but often in different hues or shades and sometimes they are more prevalent than other times. For instance, orange was a fashionable color during the lavish Georgian Era of the 18th century. Eventually these bold colors were considered garish and gave way to the pastel colors of the Regency Era. So, bright orange became soft peach. It didn’t go away, it just changed with the times. Another example are the bold designs and color combinations, of the late 60’s and early 70’s, then orange literally fades away and reinvents itself as soft, grounding earth tones in the late 70’s to early 80’s.

Consider wearing orange when you want to appear more approachable, fun loving, and bold. Perhaps it’s an orange scarf or maybe an amber ring. You don’t have to go head to toe (unless you want to) to pull in the energy of orange.

Whether orange makes you think of falling Autumn leaves and pumpkin pie or brightly colored flowers and summer sunsets, I think we can all agree, orange is always there to invite, excite and enlighten us.

XO-

Mel
